Provides support to out-of-home respite initiatives that are designed to provide families caring for a family member with a developmental disability some time to themselves while their family member is supported in social, recreational, and educational activities that promote skill development and community participation.
SIBLING WORKSHOPS
Sibling Workshops will be available online via Zoom platform for people living in PEEL
region. Sibling Workshops are offered to children who have a brother or sister with a
diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or an intellectual disability.
We offer monthly sessions for children between the ages of 6 and 13. These
workshops will focus on sharing experiences, learning about other disabilities and
meeting new people.
There is no fee for the online Sibling Workshops.
THE ZONE
An out-of-home respite initiative for families of children identified with autism spectrum disorder and between 9 and 17 years of age. A variety of fun activities and community outings are offered every Tuesday & Thursday from 4:30pm – 7:30pm at Ellen Mitchell Recreation Centre located at 922 North Park Drive in Brampton.
TEEN SCENE
A monthly, Saturday social get-together for teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17 and identified with autism spectrum disorder. Teenagers requiring additional support are welcome but require a support worker.
YOUTH QUEST I & II and MOMENTUM
A variety of social, recreational and educational activities offered on week evenings and weekends for youths ages 14 to 21. Momentum offers similar activities but is geared towards young adults between 22 and 25 years of age.
“Great experience our son had with Youth Involvement” – Dan and Gail SUMMER EXPERIENCE INITIATIVE The Summer Experience Initiative provides opportunities for students 16-21 years of age, with an intellectual disability, to participate in summer employment, develop work skills, and participate in recreational activities in their community.
MFTD RESPITE
A respite initiative designed specifically for families caring for a child identified as “medically fragile and/or technologically dependent”.
